Jane E. Smith is former CEO of the BPW/USA and the BPW Foundation. Business and Professional Women/USA, founded in 1919, promotes equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. In recent years, BPW/USA has focused on economic self-sufficiency with emphases on work life and pay equity. The mission of the BOW Foundation, founded in 1956, by BPW/USA, is to promote equity for workingwomen through education, information, research and financial assistance as well as serving as a resource on issues affecting women in the workplace.

"Turning Obstacles to Firsts Through Perseverance."
Justice Carol W. Hunstein
Chief Justice, Georgia State Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Hunstein has faced her share of challenges through her life and oppositions in her career. Instead of letting them slow her down, she allowed them to inspire her. In fact, she has achieved many firsts in her life and many of them are first for a woman in her position. She will share with us how she has overcome the obstacles and continued to persevere. And rest assured, all of these experiences have colored her position on business, the political climate and the relation between the two. She will share her thoughts around that as well.
Justice Carol W. Hunstein was appointed to the Supreme Court in November 1992 by then Governor Zell Miller. She is the second woman in history to serve as a permanent member of the Court. In 1984 Justice Hunstein won election to the Superior Court of DeKalb County. Prior to serving on the bench, Justice Hunstein was in private practice. She has been a member of the Georgia Bar since 1976.
Justice Hunstein received her Doctor in 1976 from Stetson University College of Law. She was the first woman to serve as President of the Council of Superior Court Judges and was the first person ever to have served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court before becoming a permanent member of the Court.
She is passionately involved in Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, the Commission on Gender Bias and the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Bias and the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee no name but a few. The Chief Justice has received countless honors and awards for her contributions to the state and her profession. She is also the proud mother of 3 and grandmother of one.
